Modern medicine has tested and validated Asian countries’ practice of using ginger for medicinal purposes, as well as discovered many more of its wonderful benefits.

 

Ginger is a spice commonly used in meat dishes as it softens the meat and adds flavor. In addition, ginger is also used as food preservative.

Ginger is also effective in lessening mucus in throats and lungs. The practice of using honey and ginger to treat respiratory problems is very common in many Asian countries.

Ginger extract is often used in traditional medicine to alleviate inflammation. Research has shown that its anti-inflammatory properties are due to the zingibain enzyme contained in ginger. This enzyme is a natural pain-killer, reducing muscle spasm, arthritis, headache and  migraine. Ginger oil and powder can also be used in massaging to relieve headache and muscle tension. If used regularly, ginger reduces the level of prostaglandin, thus abating pain.
